Our Team

Prof. Francesco Pappalardo
Full Professor at the University of Catania. He was a visiting research scientist at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston and at the Molecular Immunogenetics Labs, IMGT in Montpellier. His major research area is computational biomedicine, with a special focus on immune system modelling.

Doc. Giulia Russo
Senior Assistant Professor at the Department of Drug and Health Sciences, University of Catania. She gained her PhD in “Basic and Applied Biomedical Sciences” in 2018 with a special interest in computational and systems biology topics. From 2018 to 2020 she was a Research Fellow at the Department of Drug and Health Sciences, University of Catania. Since 2020 she has been a Research Fellow in Computer Science at the same Department. She also teaches Computer Science at the CdLM in Pharmacy of the University of Catania and she is Adjunct Research Fellow at University of Griffith, Australia.

Doc. Valentina Di Salvatore
Assistant professor at Health and Drug sciences Department at the University of Catania. Technical project manager for the In Silico World EU funded project. Her research activity focuses mainly on computational biology, with particular attention to data mining process, statistical analysis and high throughput genomic data analysis and interpretation

Prof. Santo Motta
MSc in Physics (University of Catania, 1970) and MSc in Applied Mathematics (University of London, Queen Mary College, 1971). Associate professor of Mathematical Physics (Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Catania). His present scientific interests are BioMaths, BioComputing and BioInformatics.

Elena Crispino
Postdoc at the University of Catania, MSc in chemistry and pharmaceutical technology. Her interest is focused on vaccine design (especially in pandemic/emegency situations) and medical devices.

Avisa Maleki
Postdoc at the University of Catania, MSc in molecular genetics. Her interest is focused on computational biology and vaccine design.

Giulia Nicotra
Research assistant at the University of Catania, MSc. in Digital Communication Sciences. Her interest is focused in dissemination, communication and engagement of In Silico Trials community of practice..

Federica Cernuto
PhD candidate at the University of Catania, MSc in Pharmacy. Her research activity focuses on in silico medicine and immune system modeling to enhance various clinical treatments. Her research aims to improve preclinical and clinical testing through computational methods, optimizing therapeutic strategies for better patient outcomes.

Aurora Merulla
PhD candidate at the University of Catania, MSc in Medical Biotechnology. Her research activity focuses on in complex biological network modeling. Her research aims to improve preclinical and clinical testing through computational methods, optimizing therapeutic strategies for better patient outcomes.

Abdul Wahab
PhD candidate at University of Catania under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action Fellowship. MSc in Computational Biology from Jeonbuk National University, South Korea. BS in Computer Science from University of The Punjab, Pakistan. His research interest is developing Agent Based modelling (ABM) for the Autoimmune Diseases such as MS and SLE. He is also interested in Artificial Intelligence based algorithms specifically interpretability of ML and Deep Learning models.
